Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced today that its Nagoya Works and Industrial Mechatronics Systems Works, both engaged in the development and manufacture of industrial automation in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, have each obtained a certification under the International Electrotechnical Commission's IEC 62443-4-1 standard regarding the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) of industrial automation and control systems. The two newly certified Works are now deploying SDL practices to satisfy customer needs for safe and secure solutions for factory automation and industrial-mechatronics products, such as programmable controllers, industrial PCs, FA sensors, human-machine interfaces, servo amplifiers, inverters, robots, CNCs, electrical discharge machines, laser processing machines and related software and services.

The new series, with safety functionality meeting IEC 61508 standards, supports various networks such as CC-Link IE TSN, a next-generation open industrial network, and make manufacturing smarter in various fields by integrating the world's first corrosive gas environment detection circuit and the industry's first AI-based diagnostic functions. From April 2020, Mitsubishi Electric will release successive new models with safety communication features such as safely-limited speed, similarly conforming to relevant IEC standards. The technology produces high-quality three-dimensional (3D) parts with few voids at high speed, employing a laser wire directed-energy deposition (DED) method, which is an additive-manufacturing process that uses focused thermal energy to fuse materials as they are deposited. More than 200 factory automation (FA) devices for the company's CC-Link IE Field Network products will be released beginning October 31. The devices, including programmable controllers, servo amplifiers, human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and inverters, will be compatible with CC-Link IE Field Network Basic, an open field network utilizing 100Mbps general-purpose Ethernet communication to connect controllers and devices.

A joint development by Mitsubishi Electric, Hitachi and Intel Corporation has been approved by the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) in the United States. The testbed is expected to facilitate the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) systems to connect manufacturing sites and head offices for strengthened operations such as the globalization of supply chains and improved production quality, delivery time and productivity when responding to sudden changes in markets.
